From Britannia to the Wavyline

JULIE Marston (nee Tizard) passed away at home on February 10.

The eldest daughter of the late George and Vera Tizard, Julia or Julie as she was known, grew up on Hayling Island, with her late brother Harry, David, sisters Ann, Shirley and Monica, her childhood pals, Peter Tibble, Stan Hill and Dave Smith.

As well as brother David, they would all be seen together at dances at Northney Institute and the Legion Hall.

In Julie's early life she was a waitress at the Everden caf, and an usherette at the Regal Cinema.

She joined the Red Cross as a cadet and was taught by the Hicks sisters eventually becoming a lieutenant.

Julie eventually met and fell in love with Eric, who was in the Navy. They married and had four children - Colin, Meyrick, Maxine - who died after just two days - and finally Veronica.

Julie was on the very first carnival committee, which was formed by the Naval Association, along with doctors Broughton, Brennan, Adams and Bill Denton.

Eric's time in the Navy saw him serve on The Royal Yacht, Britannia, and the couple spent time aboard for many family occasions.

They also attended many garden parties at Buckingham Palace.

Julie was foster mother to Tony, Anthony, Andrew, Mandy and Lisa, and surrogate grandmother to Mitchell and Maxine.

Julie helped Eric with the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, co-ordinating the annual collection. She also delivered the Hayling Islander for many years, until her health made her give it up.

Julie was very proud of daughter in-laws, Julie and Sue, son in-law Peter, her grandchildren, Kay, Carrie, Joanna, grandson Nathan and great grandsons Jed and Zac.

She loved watching Kay with her hairdressing, Carrie with her beauty therapy, Joanna with her dancing and Nathan with his football, qualifying as a referee, while Jed and Zac took up kick-boxing.

Julie worked with Sheila, at the Wavyline stores in Kings Road for many years, until Mr Hedger retired and sold up. They then paired up again working at the Hayling Secondary School.

Julie was always known for her help, whether it was doing some babysitting or cooking or pushing neighbours' cars when they wouldn't start!

Eric and family would like to thank, Julie, Joy, Glynis, Sue, Ali, Kim, Lynn, Ann, Tara and Vivian - all of Julie's carers, including the community nurses and Dr Thomas for their help and support.

Thank you also to Jane, Peter and the staff at Grady's and to Reverend Pennie Payne.

So loving, so caring, the world is a better place for having Julie around.
