SCORES of dog lovers took part in a sponsored walk to raise money for an animal shelter.
Four-footed friends joined their owners on the ninth annual Hayling Island wag walk to raise money for RSPCA Solent Branch, Stubbington Ark Animal Shelter.
Television host and newsreader Fred Dinenage opened the walk, as he has done for the past nine years, and was welcomed by the walkers.
Vanessa Eden, fundraising manager for RSPCA Solent Branch said: ‘The Wag Walk just keeps getting better and better and we always get great support from Hayling Island.’
This year saw scores of people take part and they had all attracted their own sponsorship for the event.
This year’s winner of the Wag Walk Shield with the highest sponsorship of £200 was Katie Jones and Ruby.
Katie said: ‘I am delighted to win the Wag Walk this year and feel so lucky to have Ruby as my companion. I could not wish for a nicer dog.
‘The shield and cup will take pride of place in my home and we will both be back next year to see if we can beat our total.’
Katie and Ruby also won a goody bag and trophy for Ruby and a meal for two for Katie.
It costs more than £3,000 per day to keep the Stubbington Ark running and it relies totally on the public’s generosity.
