£150,000 adizone for Eastoke Corner
BOROUGH council bosses are hoping to unveil Hayling's Olympics legacy before the games come to London in 2012, by getting sports giants adidas to build one of its so called £150,000 adi-zones at Eastoke Corner.
Civic chiefs have applied for a 75,000 grant to build the "multi-purpose" sports facility as part of its second phase of the Liveability Plaza development, with adidas prepared to stump up the other 150,000.
They were given serious flak by residents groups last year after sitting tight on the disputed 130,000 left in council coffers to finish the plaza development some three years after it was unveiled.
And there was an outcry when it was revealed by the Islander that it included a sculpture trail amid accusations council leaders and officers were trying to foist what they wanted to see on Hayling – rather than what residents actually wanted.
The 25 square metre adizone would feature a large outdoor gym, basketball and football area, climbing wall, tennis wall and a freestyle area for aerobics, dance and martial arts etc. covered by a shade canopy.
A bandstand is also high on the council's wishlist.
