ONE Ofsted inspection is stressful enough.

But a Hayling Island school campus that had four in one week has come out with a string of excellent grades including two top ratings.

It is a huge success story for the Childsplay Nursery, Mengham Out of School Club – both rated outstanding – and Hayling Community pre-school and Mengham Infants, who were awarded good with outstanding features.

They all look after the same children from birth to the age of seven, and are delighted with the recognition.

Sue Bailey, principal of Childsplay, was celebrating the nursery’s third ‘outstanding’ in a row.

Inspectors praised high standards, enthusiastic leadership and management, a stimulating range of activities and excellent links with neighbouring schools.

She said: ‘We are absolutely thrilled.

‘It’s never easy improving on an outstanding but we’ve had three in a row and it’s a testament to all the hard work to ensure children in our care get the best.

‘Children on our campus have a great start in life. They’re moving from one excellent provision to the next, and we all work closely together.

‘I feel very proud of my staff and of our neighbours.

‘Working with very young children is hard work and you only have one chance to get it right. Together we are improving outcomes for all families.’

Mengham out-of-school club, which is based in its own classroom in the infants school, was praised for its ‘extremely warm, safe and caring environment’, excellent behaviour, and fun atmosphere.

And Hayling Community Pre-school, which also operates from the infant school, was commended for its ‘well-led, vibrant setting’ that is ‘buzzing with activity’.

Jan Randall, headteacher at Mengham Infants, where inspectors noted children achieve above national average standards, said: ‘It’s fantastic that we’re considered good or outstanding throughout the campus.

‘It means there’s fantastic continuity and it’s a credit to everyone working together, as well as our parents who play a huge role.’
