Creative authors bring National Libraries Day to life

A CRIME author from Hayling Island will be setting the tone of National Libraries Day in Portsmouth with a talk about her novels and even the chance to be named in a future book.

Pauline Rowson, author of the popular Marine Mystery crime series featuring DI Horton which are set in the Portsmouth and Solent areas, promises to entertain visitors at Portsmouth Central Library on Saturday, February 4.

She will start the event with a talk about her novels and crime writing, and there will be the opportunity to win signed copies of her crime novels with a murder mystery quiz hunt for clues around the library.

Another quiz prize will be the chance to be named as a character in one of her forthcoming DI Horton crime novels.

Pauline, whose latest novel A Killing Coast published this month is set in Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight, said: ‘I’m a great supporter of libraries. I owe them a debt of gratitude because if it hadn’t been for my local library in Portsmouth as a child I doubt I would ever have discovered a lifelong passion for reading and for writing.

‘I’m delighted to be taking part in the celebrations.’

Events and activities will take place in a variety of libraries including in schools, colleges, universities and public libraries in the UK in the week leading up to and on National Libraries Day on Saturday 4 February.

Tickets to the event from 10.30am until 12.30pm cost £3 and can be bought at any library in Portsmouth, or by emailing libraries@ portsmouthcc.gov.uk or calling (023) 9281 9311.

Bridgemary School in Gosport will be marking National Libraries Day when children’s author Judy Waite runs creative writing workshops around her book Fun Fear from 9.30am to midday.
