Breakwater plan - readers have their say

SCORES of Hayling households have had their say on Alan Priddy's Venture Hayling project, including proposals to build a breakwater off the south eastern corner of the Island, and improve access with a new chain-link ferry.

More than one-in-10 families on the Island responded to our survey, out of a population of some 17,000 people on Hayling.

The overwhelming majority were in favour to the general principles that new sea defences would offer a chance to increase Hayling's attractions to both locals and visitors and help regenerate the Island's economy.

While the serious work on Mr Priddy's proposals is only just beginning, the Islander has been inundated with comments from the public – both for and against – we publish a selection of them here.

Many of them were sent attached to our questionnaire – which we gave readers the chance to complete anonymously, so we have only identified those people who chose to make their views public.
