WHEN six-year-old Cameron McClure woke up one late April morning, he never suspected he would spend the day chatting to the Queen.
But hours later the Hayling Island youngster had been lifted from the crowd at Guildhall Square to present his bouquet of flowers to the monarch, and chat with her before she met D-Day veterans inside the Guildhall, on April 30.

Cameron's mum Nicky McClure, aged 39, said: "My daughter Laura was there with Portsmouth Grammar School, but Cameron has always wanted to see the Queen, ever since we took him to Trafalgar 200 as a youngster.

"He was too young then really and was asleep throughout.

"So that morning, as I got him ready to go to school, I just thought "that's it.

"We may never get a better chance to see her here,' so I decided to take him down.

"It's fantastic luck that he got to meet her."

On the way to the city centre, mum and son stopped at a florist, where they bought a bouquet of thistle, carnations and gypsophila.

As the Queen made her way to the Guildhall, a security guard lifted Cameron over the fence to meet the monarch, before her visit to the D-Day Museum on Southsea seafront.

The youngster said: "It was exciting to meet her. She asked if the flowers were for her and I said, 'Yes they are.'

"Then I said 'It's lovely to meet you, Your Majesty,' then she said, 'Thank you,' and went up the steps to the hall.'
